Most of a painting estimate is prep hours. Here is exactly what those hours buy, so you can compare our number to anyone else's honestly.

Protection and masking
Floors covered, furniture moved to the middle and wrapped, fixtures and hardware removed rather than taped around, and hard lines masked at every edge.
Wash and de-gloss
Kitchen and bath walls get degreased, exteriors get washed. Paint doesn't bond to grease, chalk or mildew, and it will tell you so within a year.
Patch and skim
Nail pops reset, cracks cut out and taped rather than smeared, dents filled, then sanded flat and dusted before priming.
Caulk and seal
Trim-to-wall, casing joints and exterior seams caulked with a paintable sealant. This is the single line most crews skip and the first one that opens.
Spot and full prime
Bare wood, patched compound, stains and any big colour change get the right primer for the substrate — not a coat of finish paint pretending to be one.
Finish coats
Two coats of a premium interior or exterior finish, cut in by hand at every edge, in the sheen that suits the room rather than the sheen that hides the least.
Daily clean-down
Tools out of the space, drop cloths folded, floors vacuumed. We leave the house liveable at the end of every working day, not just at the end of the job.
Walk-through under real light
We walk the rooms with you at daylight and again with the lights on, mark the touch-ups, and do them before invoicing.
Interior vs exterior
New England decides when the outside gets painted.
Interiors run year-round. We work one area at a time in an occupied house, protect the route in and out, and clean the space down at the end of every working day.
Exteriors are different. Paint needs a dry surface and a warm enough one to cure, and in Massachusetts that means the warm, dry stretch of the year — not whichever week is convenient. Coating a damp or cold surface to hit a date buys you a peel in eighteen months.
We will tell you that at the estimate rather than after the fact, and we'd rather move an exterior a week than hand you a job that fails.

How a painting job runs
Short and predictable — as long as nobody skips a step.
Exterior work in Massachusetts is weather-bound. We schedule exteriors for the warm, dry stretch of the year and we won't put a coat on a wet or cold surface to hit a date — it will peel, and then it's both our problems.

Walk the rooms
Free on-site estimate, Monday to Saturday, 3 to 5 PM. We count the rooms, the trim, the ceilings and the repairs, then write it down.

Colour and sheen
Colour consult included. We sample on your wall, in your light, because a chip under a store fluorescent lies.
- 02
Protect and repair
Cover, move, mask, wash, patch, sand, caulk. Usually the longest phase, and the one worth paying for.
- 03
Prime
The right primer for the surface — bare wood, fresh compound, stains, tannin-prone trim, or a dark-to-light colour change.
- 04
Two finish coats
Cut in by hand, rolled or sprayed depending on the surface, with proper dry time between coats instead of a rushed recoat.
- 05
Reinstall, clean, walk
Hardware and fixtures back on, furniture back in place, site cleaned, punch list closed with you in the room.

Straight answers
What people ask about painting.
How long does painting an interior take?
A few rooms is usually two to four working days including prep. A whole floor or a whole house is a week or more. Prep is what moves the number, and we itemize it so you can see where the hours go.
Do I need to move out?
No. We work in occupied houses constantly. We do one area at a time, protect the route in and out, and clean the space down at the end of each day.
Do you supply the paint?
Yes, and we'll tell you which line we're using and why. If you'd rather buy the paint yourself, that's fine too — we'll spec exactly what to get.
When can you paint the exterior?
Exterior painting in Massachusetts runs in the warm, dry part of the year. Surface temperature and moisture decide the schedule, not the calendar — we won't coat a cold or damp surface just to hit a date.
My house was built before 1978. What about lead paint?
We don't do de-leading — that requires a licensed deleader. If we suspect lead on a surface we'd be disturbing, we stop and tell you before we sand anything.
Can you paint kitchen cabinets?
Yes, and it lives or dies on prep: doors off and labelled, hardware removed, degreased, sanded, bonding primer, then finish. Ask about it at the estimate so we can look at the doors first.
